The Applied Cybersecurity Essentials - Defender series gives you the hands-on, real-world cyber and information security experience needed to start your journey in cyber. You will practice cybersecurity skills while defending a real network against various cyber attacks on the Purdue Cyber Range. This series covers practical defensive skills such as incident response, firewall implementation and configuration, and network protocol analysis techniques in a team-based setting.

Who should take this series

A.C.E. - Defender is designed for professionals working in cyber and information security. It is recommended for those who either have completed A.C.E. - Essential Defender or those with three to five years of experience in I.T. or cyber.

Training

You can go through A.C.E. - Defender in a couple of ways: online or in-person. The series is divided into four courses, each with a selection of scenarios for the range. All courses are 16 credit hours, and you will earn a badge upon passing. 

Available Courses

DEF-302: Focuses key security operations and concepts like SIEMS, firewalls, and systems monitoring. 

DEF-303: Reinforce security concepts such as log management, scripting, sniffing, and more.

DEF-304: Hands-on experience defending and hardening databases against attacks and other cyber concepts. 

DEF-305: Understand the fundamentals of reverse engineering and incident response while reinforcing key cyber skills

Tech Requirements

It is recommended that all of cyberTAP courses be taken on a laptop or PC that runs either Windows of Linux as an operating system. We also recommended to have a fast and reliable internet access.
